How to choose a monitor arm?

Buying a monitor arm is confusing, when there are so many specifications and confusing terms. Let me guide you through step by step on how to choose the right one for you.

Installing your monitor arm

There are 3 ways you can install your monitor arm:

These are the 3 standard types of mounts for a monitor arm.

C-Clamp:

With a C-Clamp, the monitor arm grips to the edge of the desk. This is the easiest method to install a monitor arm as it requires no handy work. Moving it around is easy too; just loosen the clamp and shift it to another location.

Grommet

As for Grommet, the monitor arm is fastened through a hole in the desk and tightened from below. This option allows you to position exactly where you want the monitor arm to be. The smallest size of the hole required is 12mm.

Wall:

Using Wall Mount, you can mount the monitor arm onto walls easily. This allows you to mount your monitor arm on any flat surfaces, even machines.

Functions of a monitor arm

You will see many confusing terms when it comes to the functions of a monitor arm. They are often listed like this:

It is hard to imagine these functions without seeing an actual setup. So have a look below:

There are many kinds of monitor arms out there. Hence it is important for you to check whether it has the functions you need.

For our infinite monitor arms, it is like LEGO where you can mix and match parts!

Single, Multiple or Laptop

Depending on your setup, you could be using one or multiple monitors. If you are using a single monitor, a single monitor arm works well for you. More and more are working with multiple monitors and for that you will need a multiple monitor arm.

At infinitearm, our monitor arms can fit up 10 monitors per setup and can be customized to fit the number of monitors you are using.

If you use a laptop to do your daily work, a laptop arm will work greatly.

Monitor Weight

Technology is improving every day, making monitors larger and lighter. Samsung just released their latest 49-inch monitor whereas Dell has their new 8K monitor. This matters because a monitor arm can only hold up to a certain weight (12Kg for our infinitearms) for it to function properly.

If you are using a monitor that is heavier than it can hold, the monitor will not stay in place.

Warranty & Quality

A monitor arm is your workhorse. You will be using it every day, making sure your monitors are placed in the right position so that you can work at your best.

It is important to get one that is of good quality and covered with sufficient warranty.

Cost

Being the most expensive doesn’t mean it is the best and that goes both ways. If cost is your biggest factor, go through the points above and see which you can compromise on. If not, choose the one that is the most suitable to you as it is designed to last for many years.

With these tips, I hope that it will be an easy task for you to select the right monitor arm.
